Canadian Citizenship Certificate
A Canadian Citizenship Certificate is document which proves your status as a Canadian Citizen. There are a number of reasons to apply for a Citizenship Certificate.
- If your previous Citizenship Certificate has been lost, stolen or damaged, you may apply for a replacement.
- If you would like to update a legal name change on your Citizenship Certificate, you may apply for a new one.
- You may apply for a Citizenship Certificate for a child born in Canada.
- You may apply for a Citizenship Certificate for a child born outside Canada, to a Canadian parent (if the child is eligible to receive citizenship by descent).

Renounce Canadian Citizenship
Renouncing your Canadian Citizenship deprives you of having status in Canada and results in you losing any rights and privileges enjoyed by Canadian Citizens.
If you wish to renounce your Canadian Citizenship
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- You must prove that you will obtain citizenship of another country.
- You must not continue to reside in Canada (unless you have reobtained legal status).
- You must understand the significance of your decision to renounce

Search for Citizenship Records
You may submit a request to the IRCC for the search of citizenship records to find proof of Canadian Citizenship or Naturalization information. If proof is found you will receive a letter detailing how and when the applicant became a Canadian citizen, or if a pending Canadian Citizenship application is in process.
